Türkiye Sends Top Trade Delegation to Damascus to Boost Economic Cooperation

In a major diplomatic and economic move, Türkiye’s Trade Minister Ömer Bolat will arrive in Damascus on Wednesday for two days of high-level talks aimed at restoring and expanding economic ties between the two countries.

This visit marks the most significant Turkish economic delegation to Syria in over a decade.

Accompanied by Turkish business leaders and trade officials, Bolat will meet with key Syrian ministers to discuss cooperation in trade, customs, transportation, investment, and energy.

The visit signals Türkiye’s growing role in supporting Syria’s post-conflict recovery and infrastructure rebuilding efforts.

Talks will involve Syrian Economy Minister Nidal Shaar, Finance Minister Mohammad Yasar Bernia and Transport Minister Yarub Badr, among others. A business forum will also be held to explore partnership opportunities between Turkish and Syrian companies.

Türkiye’s exports to Syria reached $2.2 billion last year, while imports totaled $437 million.

Discussions will also focus on reviving a free trade agreement suspended in 2011 and improving customs operations and transport links between the two countries.

The visit reflects a broader strategy to strengthen regional economic cooperation and help stabilize Syria’s economy through strategic partnerships.
