Numan Kurtulmuş Reelected as Speaker of Türkiye’s Parliament

Numan Kurtulmuş, Istanbul deputy from the AK Party, was reelected as Türkiye’s parliament speaker. In the third round of voting, he won 320 out of 529 votes, exceeding the 301 needed for a majority.

Other candidates included CHP’s Ugur Bayraktutan with 118 votes, IYI Party’s Mustafa Cihan Pacaci and New Path Party’s Mehmet Karaman each with 26 votes, and DEM Party’s Osman Cengiz Candar with 18. One vote was blank and 11 were invalid.

After the vote, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz congratulated Kurtulmuş. He began his first term as speaker in June 2023 and will now serve another two-year term.
