Renowned Turkish arranger, composer, and drummer Murat Yeter has launched a unique new musical project titled “FOLK”. In this album, prominent Turkish artists have reimagined traditional Anatolian folk songs with a modern musical twist.
This project blends centuries-old folk melodies with modern production, aiming to bring Turkey’s rich cultural and musical heritage to the new generation and international audiences.
A “Dream Team” of Artists
The album features a stellar lineup of famous Turkish artists, widely being referred to as the country’s musical “Dream Team.”
- Initial Release: Kenan Doğulu kicked off the album with the track “Halay”, alongside captivating performances by Serkan Kaya, Sıla, Rubato, Mahmut Tuncer, and Tuğçe Kandemir on various other songs.
- Subsequent Releases: Candan Erçetin performed Ankara’s famous folk song “Bahçenizde Gül Var Mı”, while Emre Altuğ delivered a Balkan-style rendition of “Dere Boyu Kavaklar”. Renowned folk artist Zara performed “Garip Bir Kuştu Gönlüm”, and actor Oktay Kaynarca lent his voice to the classic track “Gesi Bağları”.
A Journey of Over 40 Years
According to Murat Yeter, this album is not just a musical project but a reflection of a journey spanning over forty years. This journey began in Istanbul’s Kasımpaşa district and paved its way through wedding halls, music venues, international stages, and ultimately to the Houston Jazz Festival.
“The purpose of this project is to share the soul of Turkish folk music with the world and connect it with the modern era while preserving its traditional beauty.” — Murat Yeter
