Japan Records Hottest Year on Record in 2024

Japan’s weather agency has declared 2024 the hottest year since records began, with temperatures rising 1.48°C above the 1991-2020 average.

This marks the highest increase since data collection started in 1898.

The record-breaking temperatures reflect a global trend, with the U.N.’s weather agency also confirming 2024 as the warmest year globally.

Japan’s summers and autumns were particularly hot, and the increase in extreme weather events like heavy rain, floods, and landslides is attributed to climate change.
