Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Özgür Özel has urged lawmakers to support raising the lowest pension to match the country’s minimum wage.
Speaking in Erzurum, he appealed to all political parties and MPs, stressing that pensioners need financial relief, especially during the harsh winter.
The proposal comes after the government raised the minimum wage by 30%.
Özel criticized the government for income inequality and vowed that his party would raise the lowest pension to one and a half times the minimum wage if elected.
