A massive protest led by Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, turned violent in Islamabad, resulting in the arrest of nearly 1,000 supporters. The protest, which began on November 24, was organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, demanding Imran Khan’s immediate release from prison.
The government has labeled the PTI as a party of “anarchists and saboteurs” and plans to register cases against PTI leaders, including Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The cases are related to the killing of security personnel and the attack on the federal capital during the PTI’s march.
The protest turned chaotic when the lights suddenly went out, and police fired tear gas. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with protesters running for their lives and many injured. The Pakistan government has decided to take strict action against the PTI and its leaders, establishing a task force to identify those involved in the violent protests.
The situation remains tense, with many PTI supporters still loyal to Khan and his wife. The government has also decided to set up a Federal Riot-Control Force to prevent future attempts to spread chaos and violence in the country.
