Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) continues to solidify its position in Parliament, gaining an additional seat as opposition Good Party (IP) lawmaker Kürşad Zorlu joined its ranks.
This marks a significant boost to the AK Party’s parliamentary strength, now holding 269 seats, after enduring some losses following the 2023 general elections.
In the past 18 months, seven lawmakers from opposition parties, including IP, New Welfare Party (YRP), and Future Party (GP), have joined the AK Party, reflecting its enduring appeal.
The Good Party has been particularly affected, with 14 lawmakers leaving since 2023, many joining other parties or becoming independents.
The AK Party, which boasts over 11.1 million members the highest of any political party in Türkiye remains a dominant force in Turkish politics.
As it celebrates 24 years since its founding, its legacy includes significant reforms in public services and addressing long-standing societal issues.
Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the AK Party has consistently demonstrated resilience, overcoming political challenges and cementing its role as a voice for the masses.
The party’s continued growth highlights its ability to adapt and maintain public support, ensuring its place as a leading force in Türkiye’s political landscape.
