After assuming office, U.S. President Donald Trump began his first full day with a prayer service at the National Cathedral, where he had last attended the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.
Following his inauguration, Trump signed several executive orders, including strict measures on immigration, environmental policies, and cultural issues.
He issued orders to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization. Additionally, he declared a national emergency at the Mexican border, deploying U.S. forces to combat illegal immigration.
Trump also issued a pardon for 1,500 Capitol Hill rioters and announced renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
Furthermore, he hinted at imposing trade tariffs and reclaiming the Panama Canal, which has been under the control of the Central American country since 1999.
Regarding his earlier promises of a peace deal in Ukraine, Trump softened his stance, stating that he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He remarked, “Putin is destroying Russia because he refuses to agree to end the war.”
At a ceremony held at the Capitol, moved indoors due to severe cold, Trump declared that “America’s decline is over, and a golden era for the United States begins today.”
Former President Joe Biden quietly listened to Trump’s speech, in which he harshly criticized Biden’s presidency.
At the age of 78, Trump has become the second U.S. president in history to return to office, a distinction first achieved by Grover Cleveland in 1893.
He is also the oldest president and the first to have been convicted in a criminal case, though he has not let these issues hinder his agenda.
Trump signed the executive orders during a rally with his supporters at a sports arena in Washington, distributing commemorative pens to them.
Later, he and his wife Melania attended several inaugural events, spending time with the U.S. military.
In his speech, Trump proclaimed, “We will only win; we will never surrender. Our only goal is to defeat America’s enemies.”
