UN Chief Calls to Prevent Resumption of Hostilities in Gaza

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the importance of avoiding the resumption of hostilities in Gaza, urging all parties to honor the ceasefire agreement and resume negotiations in Doha.

Guterres warned that renewed fighting could result in an “immense tragedy.”

He also called on Hamas to follow through with its plan to release hostages by Saturday.

His comments come as the ceasefire, which began on January 19, remains fragile.

The ceasefire has paused Israel’s military actions, which have led to over 48,000 casualties in Gaza.

The first phase of the ceasefire includes the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, with the next exchange scheduled for this week.

International mediators are working to ensure the ceasefire continues and leads to lasting peace in the region.
