Türkiye launches its first floating natural gas platform ‘Osman Ghazi’ to the Black Sea, will process 10.5 million cubic meters daily

In a major milestone for Türkiye’s energy sector, the country has launched its first floating natural gas processing platform, ‘Osman Ghazi,’ which departed for the Black Sea on May 29 the same historic day marking the Conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Empire.

At a special ceremony held at Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the launch, joined by Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and other high-ranking officials.

President Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye is no longer merely an energy-importing country, but one now capable of discovering and eventually exporting energy to the world. He noted the discovery of 75 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea as a result of Türkiye’s strategic planning and resilience.

Technically advanced, ‘Osman Ghazi’ is 298.5 meters long, 56 meters wide, and 29.5 meters deep. It will process 10.5 million cubic meters of gas daily and transmit 10 million cubic meters to land each day. The platform will remain operational for the next 20 years, with full-scale operations set to begin by mid-2026.

Departing from Ahırkapı Anchorage Area in Istanbul, ‘Osman Ghazi’ is expected to reach Filyos Port by June 1 after an 11-hour journey.

This addition strengthens Türkiye’s energy fleet, which already includes modern vessels such as Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni, Abdülhamid Han, Oruç Reis, and Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa.

Through this strategic advancement, Türkiye not only commemorates the Conquest of Constantinople, but also takes a bold step toward energy self-sufficiency positioning itself as a potential key player on the global energy map.
