A significant natural gas agreement between Türkiye and Azerbaijan officially came into force on March 5, 2025, after being published in the Turkish Official Gazette.
The pact, initially signed in May 2024 by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, is set to deepen the energy partnership between the two nations.
The agreement will allow for the transportation of increased volumes of Azerbaijani natural gas from the Caspian region to Türkiye by 2030.
A portion of this gas will also be sent to Europe, enhancing energy security across both regions. To support this, the capacities of the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Pipeline will be expanded.
This new phase of cooperation strengthens the already close energy ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, underlining their importance as key players in regional energy security.
