On Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a meeting in Istanbul with Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy on Cyprus. The meeting is part of continued diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the longstanding Cyprus dispute.
While the Turkish Foreign Ministry did not release specific details of the discussions, the meeting reflects Türkiye’s ongoing support for efforts to reach a fair and lasting solution on the island. The engagement comes as the UN continues consultations with all relevant parties to assess the possibility of resuming negotiations between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Greek Cypriot administration.
Holguin Cuellar, a seasoned diplomat and former foreign minister of Colombia, was appointed by the UN to explore ways to restart peace talks, which have been stalled for several years.
