Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard has reiterated Sweden’s dedication to ongoing cooperation with Turkish officials, despite recent setbacks.
Stenergard addressed the September incident involving a Swedish plane that had to turn back while en route to Türkiye, citing it as “unfortunate” but emphasizing the country’s “good exchanges of views” with Turkish officials.
Sweden is also updating its defense policies, including efforts to align military equipment export guidelines with NATO standards. This shift marks a departure from Sweden’s old neutrality policy and a move towards deeper integration with NATO.
On the Israel-Palestine conflict, Stenergard underscored the importance of a two-state solution, calling for de-escalation, prisoner releases, and reduced civilian casualties in Gaza.
