Russia’s Security Chief Visits North Korea for Talks with Kim Jong Un

Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to Russian news agency TASS.

Shoigu’s visit was ordered by President Vladimir Putin, and the two leaders are expected to discuss key issues.

The meeting comes amid speculation that Kim may soon visit Russia for a summit with Putin to mark the first anniversary of their mutual defense treaty signed last June. Since then, North Korea has deployed thousands of troops to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
