Moscow has alleged that the United States is orchestrating plans to sabotage the TurkStream gas pipeline, a crucial energy link between Russia and Türkiye.
The claims were made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press briefing in the capital on Tuesday.
Lavrov accused Washington of backing “terrorist activities” aimed at destabilizing global energy networks, specifically targeting European energy security.
He asserted that the US is encouraging its Ukrainian allies to attack the pipeline, mirroring what Russia has described as sabotage operations against the Nord Stream pipeline in the past.
“The US does not tolerate competition in any sector, including energy,” Lavrov remarked. “They are recklessly endorsing actions that undermine stability and cooperation in energy infrastructure.”
The remarks follow a recent announcement by Russia’s Defense Ministry, which stated that Ukrainian drones were intercepted while allegedly attempting to target the TurkStream infrastructure.
The TurkStream pipeline, which plays a significant role in supplying gas to Türkiye and parts of Europe, is critical to regional energy dynamics.
The allegations add fuel to existing geopolitical tensions between Moscow, Washington, and Kyiv, raising concerns over the security of vital energy infrastructure.
Observers are closely watching the situation as it unfolds, with potential ramifications for international energy markets and diplomatic relations.
