Putin Agrees to Limited Ceasefire with Ukraine and Halt Attacks on Energy Infrastructure After Talks with Trump

In a crucial phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a temporary ceasefire regarding attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure.

The agreement, which will last for the next 30 days, follows discussions aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Putin has instructed the Russian military to comply with this limited ceasefire.

However, Putin made it clear that any possibility of a wider, more comprehensive ceasefire would depend on halting foreign military support and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

This demand has been rejected by Ukraine’s European allies in the past, highlighting the complexity of reaching a broader peace agreement. Despite these conditions, Ukraine agreed to the 30-day ceasefire proposal last week.

The Kremlin reported that during the call, both leaders discussed critical elements of the ceasefire, including ensuring that Ukraine does not use this period to mobilize additional forces or rearm itself.

Putin emphasized that a diplomatic resolution to the conflict could only occur if foreign military assistance to Ukraine is stopped.

On his social media platform, Donald Trump described the conversation as “very productive” and expressed confidence in the potential for a complete ceasefire in the future.

Trump stated, “We’ve agreed on an immediate ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure, and ultimately, this is aimed at bringing an end to this devastating war between Russia and Ukraine.”

While this development marks a temporary pause in hostilities, the situation remains fragile.

The conditions laid out by Putin could prove to be a significant obstacle to achieving lasting peace. The international community will continue to monitor these evolving talks closely.
