President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident at the Kartalkaya Sky Resort hotel, which has left the entire nation grieving.
Following a cabinet meeting in Ankara, President Erdoğan declared a one-day national mourning across the country to honor the victims of the tragedy.
In his statement to the media, President Erdoğan said, “Tomorrow, the entire nation will observe a day of mourning.
I pray for God’s mercy upon those who have passed, and I offer my condolences to their families.”
The President assured that those responsible for the devastating incident would be brought to justice, emphasizing the importance of unity during this difficult time.
“We must stand together and support one another in these moments of grief. We expect all politicians, the media, and local authorities to share in the sorrow of our citizens,” he added.
The tragic fire at the 11-story Kartalkaya Sky Resort hotel in the Bolu province has shaken the nation. A total of 66 people lost their lives, and 51 others were injured.
The height and remote location of the hotel made firefighting efforts particularly challenging.
Television footage showed the upper floors and roof of the hotel engulfed in flames.
Disturbing images of guests attempting to escape by tying sheets and descending from windows further intensified the public’s grief.
The incident occurred during Turkiye’s winter holiday season, when many families from Istanbul and Ankara travel to the resort in Bolu’s mountains. Governor of Bolu, Abdulaziz Aydın, confirmed that 234 guests were present at the hotel at the time of the fire.
President Erdoğan declared the incident a national tragedy and appealed to the people of Turkiye to demonstrate unity and show solidarity with the affected families during this challenging period.
