Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara to discuss bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest, and Turkiye’s role in ensuring peace and security in Europe.
During the meeting, President Erdoğan highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Turkiye and Poland, stating, “We have deep historical ties with Poland that span over six centuries. As strategic partners and allies, we have openly discussed every matter related to our region.”
Prime Minister Tusk proposed that Turkiye increase its responsibility in the peace process and emphasized the importance of strengthening defense and economic relations between Poland and Turkiye.
He also reaffirmed Poland’s clear stance on the Ukraine conflict, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and a just peace agreement.
President Erdoğan pointed out that Turkiye and Poland, as key NATO allies with the largest land forces in Europe, play a significant role in ensuring regional security.
He expressed a shared commitment to improving bilateral relations and stressed the importance of Turkiye’s efforts toward European Union membership, urging Poland to support these endeavors.
The discussions also focused on Turkiye’s readiness to facilitate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the positive effects of recent Ukraine-US talks.
President Erdoğan emphasized the significance of joint efforts in achieving lasting peace in the region.
