In a significant move, Palestine’s President Mahmud Abbas has named Rawhi Fattouh as his temporary successor. This decision was made official through a presidential decree.
Fattouh, 75, is the chairman of the Palestinian National Council and has previously served as the speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council. He also briefly held the position of interim PA chief after Yasser Arafat’s death.
This development comes as Abbas, 89, has been in power since 2005, despite his term ending in 2009. The move is seen as an attempt to ensure a smooth transition of power and maintain stability in the region.
