Pakistan Awaits Ramadan Moon Sighting as Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Gathers Today

As anticipation builds across the country, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet this evening in Peshawar to determine the start of Ramadan.

Led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee aims to ensure the holy month begins on a unified date across Pakistan.

Zonal moon-sighting committees will also convene in different cities, with religious scholars, meteorologists, and experts from Suparco and the Ministry of Science and Technology contributing to the decision.

Speaking with News Channels, Maulana Azad reaffirmed that scientific data is considered alongside religious principles.

However, forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) suggest a low chance of moon sighting due to cloudy conditions.

The moon’s age at sunset (12 hours) and a five-degree angular separation with the sun make visibility unlikely.

If the moon is sighted today, Ramadan will begin on March 1. Otherwise, the first fast will be observed on March 2.

The official meeting will begin at 6:30 PM after Asr prayer, bringing together scholars from all sects. As Muslims across Pakistan and the world prepare for a month of fasting, reflection, and prayer, the waiting game for the crescent moon continues.
