Kurram’s Cycle of Violence: 124 Lives Lost, No End in Sight

Kurram, Pakistan – Tribal clashes in Kurram have claimed 124 lives and injured 178 others in the past 10 days. The violence has left the region reeling, with a communication blackout, closed schools, and disrupted daily life.

The Kurram region has been plagued by a cycle of violence, with the latest clashes beginning nine days ago. Despite efforts to broker a ceasefire, the violence persists, with police struggling to maintain control.

Deputy Commissioner Mehsud remains hopeful for progress on a ceasefire, but the situation remains volatile. The closure of the Peshawar-Parachinar Highway has not only disrupted local transportation but also caused a complete suspension of trade with Afghanistan.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has recorded 79 deaths in the region between July and October this year, highlighting the persistent instability. Previous efforts to mediate peace have failed to hold, leaving the people of Kurram caught in a cycle of violence with no end in sight.
