On January 20, 2025, Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze, along with the heads of accredited diplomatic missions and staff of the Georgian Embassy, paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s freedom 35 years ago.
This act of commemoration took place at the Alley of Martyrs, where flowers were laid on the graves of those who perished in the brutal Soviet crackdown during the January 20, 1990, tragedy.
The tragic event occurred when Soviet troops violently suppressed protests against the USSR-backed Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan.
The attack resulted in the deaths of peaceful civilians who had rallied for their homeland’s territorial integrity and freedom.
The day remains a significant and heroic chapter in Azerbaijan’s modern history, representing a fight for freedom and national dignity.
