European Union Likely to Lift Sanctions on Syria

The European Union is considering lifting sanctions imposed on Syria, potentially in support of a new Syrian government following the end of Bashar al-Assad’s rule.

According to EU diplomatic officials, sanctions related to banking, energy, and transportation are expected to be lifted as early as Monday.

These sanctions were initially imposed during the 13-year civil war under Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The new Syrian government, along with international organizations, has called for the removal of these sanctions. However, the European Union remains hesitant to fully remove all restrictions, with expectations for a partial easing of the sanctions in the near future.
