Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to visit Pakistan this week, marking the final stop of his four-day tour of Asia, which also includes Malaysia and Indonesia.
Erdoğan’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various fields, including defense.
The trip follows a recent meeting between Erdoğan and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari during Zardari’s brief stop in Istanbul.
The two leaders exchanged cordial remarks and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Erdoğan’s visit to Pakistan comes amid growing defense cooperation between Turkiye and Pakistan, highlighted by a deal for Turkiye to provide vessels to the Pakistan Navy.
The two countries also conducted a naval exercise, Turgutreis-XI, in the Eastern Mediterranean in January to boost maritime security.
In addition to defense, Erdoğan’s visit is expected to focus on strengthening other aspects of bilateral relations.
This visit also follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Erdoğan in New York in September 2024, where the Turkish president praised Pakistan’s economic progress.
