ERDOĞAN SEIZES INITIATIVE IN SYRIA TURKEY STANDS TO GAIN FROM ASSAD REGIME’S COLLAPSE

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emerged as a key player in the Syrian crisis, following the collapse of the Assad regime.

Erdoğan’s decade-long support for Syria’s armed opposition has granted him significant influence in shaping Syria’s future.

Erdoğan’s diplomatic efforts have allowed him to maintain good relations with multiple countries, including those in the Muslim world. His ability to navigate complex geopolitical relationships has earned him respect and admiration from various quarters.

The fall of the Assad regime could also change the balance of power in the complex relationship between Erdoğan and Vladimir Putin.

Turkey, already struggling with high inflation and recession, would benefit from resuming full business and trade ties along the 900km Syrian-Turkish border.

However, there is also huge uncertainty about what kind of government will fill the vacuum created by the Assad regime’s collapse, and what kind of relationship it will have with its northern neighbour.

As the situation continues to unfold, Erdoğan’s next moves will be closely watched. Will he successfully navigate the challenges ahead and solidify his position as a regional leader, or will other players emerge to challenge his influence?
