An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck near the Turkiye-Iraq border, with tremors felt in Turkiye’s provinces of Hakkari, Şırnak, and Van.
According to Turkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake occurred 8 kilometers from the Yüksekova district.
Hakkari’s Governor and Deputy Mayor, Ali Çelik, shared on his social media account that the tremors were felt across all districts.
Çelik said, “According to initial information, no serious issues have been reported in our district centers and villages.
However, our teams have been tasked with thoroughly checking all settlements, including villages. May Allah protect our city and country from all disasters.”
Following the earthquake, emergency teams began inspecting the affected areas, and monitoring continues in the region for further information.
Local authorities have advised the public to remain calm and take necessary precautions. Turkish officials have initiated immediate measures to assess the impact of the earthquake and assist those affected.
