China has created the world’s first artificial intelligence system that can tell real nuclear warheads apart from fake decoys. This breakthrough was developed by the China Institute of Atomic Energy and is based on a verification method created with US scientists over ten years ago.
The system still needs approval from China’s military, which is cautious about sharing sensitive information. The researchers say they cannot reveal details because of the classified nature of nuclear weapons.
China has also invited members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to work together on an AI center for sharing technology and cooperation.
