Azerbaijani President Aliyev Shares Key Evaluations on Regional and Global Agenda with Local Media

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev made evaluations on the agenda to local television channels, discussing critical issues related to Palestine, Syria, and regional security.

He emphasized Azerbaijan’s continued support for the Palestinian state, stating that the country has been providing political, moral, and material assistance for many years.

Aliyev expressed hope for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the importance of ending the conflict for the benefit of all involved.

In the interview, the President also spoke about Azerbaijan’s recent achievement of becoming a member of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization, expressing gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for supporting Azerbaijan’s candidacy.

Aliyev reflected on the country’s advocacy for the interests of Muslim nations in international organizations, including their consistent support during the COVID-19 crisis, particularly towards Palestine.

Aliyev also noted Azerbaijan’s significant humanitarian contribution to Syria, particularly its role in providing aid after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Azerbaijan, along with Türkiye, was one of the first countries to send humanitarian assistance, a commitment the country intends to continue. He emphasized that this partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, especially in the context of Syria, highlights the growing strength of their relations.

The President also commented on the shifting global order, stating that the political and moral crises in leading Western countries had led to widening gaps.

Aliyev suggested that new actors, such as the Turkic States Organization and D-8, could fill these gaps, calling on Azerbaijan to seize these emerging opportunities to become a more prominent global power.

On Armenia’s increasing militarization, Aliyev firmly condemned the country’s actions, labeling Armenia as a “fascist state” and stating that Azerbaijan would not passively tolerate this growing threat.

He outlined Azerbaijan’s conditions for peace, demanding an immediate halt to rearmament by Armenia and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

In regard to the Zangezur Corridor, Aliyev reiterated that the transportation link between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan must be opened, emphasizing that Azerbaijan would not remain in its current situation without this connection.

He emphasized that the move would not infringe on Armenia’s sovereignty, and Azerbaijan would not accept any further delays in the process.

Finally, Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s unwavering support for Türkiye, especially in its efforts to eliminate terrorism along its borders, and expressed satisfaction with the improving relations between Türkiye and the new Syrian government.

He praised the important role that Türkiye plays in the region and assured that Azerbaijan stands firmly by its side, emphasizing the growing strength of the bilateral relationship under the Shusha Declaration.

On Palestine, Aliyev once again reiterated Azerbaijan’s support for a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as the key to ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
