Türkiye, Pakistan Intelligence Agencies Capture Senior Daesh Leader in Joint Operation

Türkiye and Pakistan’s intelligence cooperation led to the successful capture of a high-ranking Daesh operative near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Özgür Altun, also known as Abu Yasir Al Turki, was one of Türkiye’s most wanted terrorists in the orange category and served as a key media and logistics figure in Daesh’s Khorasan network.

Altun played a major role in spreading propaganda in Turkish and English, recruiting members from Europe and Central Asia, and planning terror attacks targeting civilians in Türkiye and Europe. His arrest marks a significant blow to Daesh’s operations in the region.

The joint operation was carried out by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who intercepted Altun as he attempted to enter Pakistan. He was handed over to Turkish authorities, where he confessed to his role in terrorist activities and organizing international recruitment for Daesh.

Digital materials recovered during the raid are expected to provide critical insight into Daesh’s communication, financing, and attack plans. Both nations reaffirmed their united front against terrorism, with Pakistan emphasizing, “Türkiye’s enemy is Pakistan’s enemy.”

This operation not only disrupted planned attacks but also highlighted the strength and efficiency of Türkiye-Pakistan intelligence collaboration in the global fight against terrorism.
