Conquest of Istanbul’s 572nd Anniversary: “Türkiye No Longer Waits—The World Now Comes to Us,” says Erdoğan

On the occasion of the 572nd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed a grand ceremony held at Beykoz National Garden, coinciding with the inauguration of several national gardens. In his address, he emphasized Türkiye’s strategic independence, defense progress, and energy achievements, alongside paying rich tribute to the legacy of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.

Erdoğan highlighted how Türkiye, through its indigenous defense industry and strategic policies, has shifted from dependency to global relevance. “We no longer wait at others’ doors. Now, the world comes to ours,” he declared, citing recent maritime operations in the Black Sea aimed at discovering new natural gas reserves through the Osman Gazi exploration ship.

Recalling the historic 1453 conquest, Erdoğan honored Sultan Mehmed II, who at just 21, led a 53-day siege that culminated in the fall of Constantinople. He praised the Sultan’s tactical brilliance, including transporting ships over land, and called the victory a turning point shaped by faith, wisdom, and perseverance.

He also drew connections between the legacy of the conquest and modern Türkiye’s technological advancements — including drones, UAVs, unmanned submarines, and smart defense systems — positioning them as reflections of the same strategic vision.

The President emphasized the responsibility of Turkish youth in shaping the future of the “Century of Türkiye” and preserving the sacrifices of their ancestors. He concluded by underlining Türkiye’s commitment to environmental protection, stating that nature is a divine trust to be passed on responsibly.

President Erdoğan reaffirmed that Türkiye will continue its journey with confidence, following the vision of Sultan Mehmed II — building a strong, independent, and prosperous nation.
