On the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, a grand cultural event was organized by the Chinese Embassy at the historic Sir Syed Memorial Hall in Islamabad.
The event was titled “Tea and Harmony: Yaji Cultural Salon.” Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq attended as chief guests.
In his speech, Ambassador Jiang highlighted the long-standing ties, mutual trust, and tradition of standing by each other in all circumstances. He stated that China has always supported Pakistan’s sovereignty, its fight against terrorism, and its national development, while Pakistan has strongly upheld the “One China Policy” and played a vital role in protecting China’s core interests. He emphasized that the solidarity shown during natural disasters and pandemics is a true testament to their “ironclad friendship.”

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq underscored the strategic significance of China-Pakistan relations and praised China’s progress in the economic, technological, and defense sectors. He described defense cooperation as a strong pillar of the partnership, highlighting Chinese technology in advanced weapons like the JF-17 Thunder, J-10C fighter jets, and the PL-15 missile system. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture, IT, mining, and climate change under the second phase of CPEC.
A notable aspect of the event was its date May 21 which not only marks a historic day in China-Pakistan relations but is also celebrated as “International Tea Day” by UNESCO since 2019. In this context, the Chinese Embassy organized its first cultural event themed around “Tea and Harmony” to highlight shared values like peace, friendship, and cultural harmony.
The event featured vibrant displays of Chinese culture and art. Traditional Chinese tea-making techniques were demonstrated, allowing guests to explore the heritage of Chinese tea. A special exhibition showcased different types of tea, adding depth to the cultural experience.
Another highlight was the opportunity for guests to wear and learn about the traditional Chinese attire “Hanfu,” promoting harmony between the civilizations of both countries.
The event saw the attendance of individuals from various walks of life, including diplomats, intellectuals, and citizens. The depth of Pakistan-China friendship, people-to-people connections, and a renewed commitment to strengthen bilateral relations were reaffirmed.
At the conclusion, it was emphasized that cultural exchanges will continue to play a vital role in building enduring ties, mutual understanding, and a prosperous shared future between the two nations.
