The United States has approved a potential sale of air-to-air missiles to Türkiye, signaling a significant move in defense cooperation between the two NATO allies. According to a statement released by the Pentagon, the estimated cost of the deal is $304 million.
The approved sale includes AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and related components. The primary contractor for the deal will be RTX Corporation, headquartered in Arizona.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed that it had delivered the required certification to notify the U.S Congress of the proposed sale, as mandated by law.
This development comes amid broader discussions within NATO about defense modernization and burden-sharing, as well as Türkiye’s efforts to expand its air force capabilities. The sale is expected to enhance Türkiye’s ability to meet current and future threats by bolstering its national defense.
