A ceasefire agreement has been reached between Pakistan and India, marking a major de-escalation after several days of heightened tensions. The ceasefire took effect at 14:30 Turkish time (17:00 Indian time), with both countries agreeing to halt military actions on land, air, and sea.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation for the critical role played by Türkiye and Saudi Arabia in facilitating the ceasefire. In a statement, the ministry acknowledged that both countries were instrumental in bringing the two sides to the negotiating table and helping prevent further military escalation.
Following the announcement, Vikram Misri, an Indian Foreign Ministry official, confirmed that the military commanders from both nations held a productive discussion earlier today. He said that an agreement was reached for both sides to cease all hostilities, and both sides have been instructed to implement the ceasefire immediately. Misri also noted that the commanders are scheduled to meet again on May 12 to continue discussions.
In his statement, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s firm stance against terrorism, stating that India will continue to combat terrorism in all its forms. He also emphasized India’s commitment to upholding national security while seeking peace.
The ceasefire announcement is seen as a positive step toward restoring peace in the region, with global leaders, including U.S President Donald Trump, congratulating both Pakistan and India for their restraint and commitment to dialogue.
