The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has successfully planted 2000 fruit saplings in the school gardens of the National Education Directorate of Balkh Province, Afghanistan.
This initiative aims to instill a love of nature and environmental stewardship in students, particularly in a country facing challenges such as drought and agricultural limitations.
The saplings, including local fruit species such as apple, pear, apricot, almond, pomegranate, oleaster, and mulberry, were selected to suit the local climatic conditions.
The saplings were planted in the gardens of 20 schools in Mazar-i-Sharif, contributing to a healthier environment and supporting the region’s agricultural development.
The ceremony was attended by Turkish Consul General in Mazar-i-Sharif Kasım Kaban, Deputy Governor of Balkh Province Mevlevi Nurul Hadi Ebu Idris, Director of National Education of Balkh Province Mevlevi Muhammed Sharif Osmani, TİKA Mazar-i-Sharif Coordinator Mikail Taşdemir, as well as other officials, school administrators, teachers, and students.
In his remarks, TİKA Coordinator Mikail Taşdemir emphasized the agency’s ongoing commitment to educational and environmental projects in Afghanistan.
He also mentioned that if the pilot sapling planting project proves successful, similar initiatives will be expanded to schools across the northern provinces of Afghanistan.
The project concluded with the planting of the 2000 grafted and certified saplings, marking a significant step in promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness among students and the broader community.
