Israel Cuts Off Power to Gaza, Escalating Crisis Despite Ceasefire

Gaza authorities confirmed that Israel had cut off the electricity supply to the region, worsening the already dire humanitarian situation.

Mohammad Thabet, spokesperson for Gaza’s Electricity Distribution Company warned that this power cut could lead to severe health and environmental disasters, as it disrupts clean water access and essential services.

Before the conflict, Gaza received power through 10 lines, but the war has destroyed much of the infrastructure. This latest action intensifies the blockade on Gaza, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.

The UN has condemned the move, with special rapporteur Francesca Albanese calling it a “genocide alert.”

Israel had already stopped humanitarian aid from entering Gaza last week, further aggravating the crisis.

The first phase of the ceasefire ended in early March, but talks remain stalled as Israel continues to delay the second phase of the agreement. Gaza has seen over 48,000 casualties since the war began.
