Davutoglu Proposes Gaza as Türkiye’s Autonomous Region Following Referendum

Former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, leader of the Future Party, has suggested that Gaza should become an autonomous region of Türkiye following a referendum, in response to U.S President Donald Trump’s controversial Gaza occupation plan.

Speaking at a group meeting of the New Path Group, which includes the Felicity Party, the DEVA Party, and the Future Party, Davutoglu referenced the historic ties between Gaza and the Ottoman Empire, stating that Gazans should be allowed to join Türkiye.

He emphasized that Gaza’s last legitimate state was under the Ottoman Empire, and the people there should decide their future through a referendum.

Until a Palestinian state is established, Davutoglu proposed that Gaza remain connected to Türkiye as an autonomous region.

His statement comes amid ongoing discussions about Trump’s plan to take over Gaza and resettle Palestinians in neighboring countries, a proposal that has been widely rejected by Palestinian and Arab leaders.
