PKK’s Senior Figure Behind Deadly Attacks in Türkiye Eliminated in Syria by MIT

Mahmut Ağca, a high-ranking figure and intelligence officer within the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party), was eliminated by Turkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in Syria’s Ain al-Arab, also known as Kobani, on Monday, according to security sources.

Ağca, codenamed “Azad,” was involved in orchestrating several devastating attacks in Türkiye, including the infamous 2016 Istanbul bombings that claimed 47 lives.

Having joined the PKK in 2006, Ağca was promoted to the group’s military intelligence unit in 2015, where he played a central role in planning attacks across Türkiye.

Among the numerous acts of terror he masterminded were bombings in Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, and Istanbul.

He was also linked to an August 2024 attack in Syria’s Azaz, targeting Syrian National Army members.
