China Denounces New US Tariffs, Pledges Retaliatory Measures

China has strongly opposed the additional 10% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Chinese imports, pledging to take “countermeasures” to protect its interests.

Trump’s new tariffs, which target major trade partners, including China, are part of his broader strategy to address illegal migration and the flow of drugs into the US.

China responded by calling the move “erroneous” and vowed to challenge it at the World Trade Organization (WTO), arguing that the tariffs violate WTO rules and harm economic cooperation.

While the new tariffs could affect 40% of China’s exports to the US, analysts suggest that the impact on China’s economy will be limited, as the country has already factored in higher tariffs.

Experts warn that the imposition of additional tariffs may escalate into a full-blown trade war, especially with China’s promise of retaliation.

Beijing has yet to specify what countermeasures it will take, but possibilities include imposing reciprocal tariffs, limiting exports of critical materials, and restricting market access to American firms.
