
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has decided to conduct a high-level investigation into the boat tragedy that occurred in Morocco, and has formed a four-member investigative committee.
According to sources from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the investigation team will be led by Additional Secretary for the Ministry of Interior, Salman Chaudhry.
The team will also include the Additional Director North of FIA Punjab, Muneer Masood Marth, along with one officer from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and one from the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The team is scheduled to depart for Morocco tonight and will remain there for 3 to 4 days.
They will meet with the Pakistani survivors of the boat accident and will investigate the causes of the tragedy, including alleged abuse and murder of Pakistani nationals.
The recent incident involved a boat that set off illegally from Mauritania en route to Spain, which tragically sank, claiming the lives of 50 individuals, including 44 Pakistanis.
The boat departed from Mauritania on January 2. According to Moroccan authorities, there were 66 Pakistanis aboard, 36 of whom were rescued.
Among the deceased were 12 young individuals from Gujrat, as well as others from Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin.
The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the affected families and directed that transparent and thorough investigations into the incident be conducted.
