Israel’s Security Cabinet has approved the Gaza ceasefire agreement, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has announced that the Cabinet has recommended the government accept the ceasefire deal.
According to foreign news agencies, the Israeli government is expected to hold a full Cabinet meeting today to give formal approval to the agreement.
This development follows the announcement by the Qatari Prime Minister on Wednesday that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas had been reached, with the first phase of the ceasefire set to begin on January 19.
However, Israel has not yet issued an official statement regarding the ceasefire agreement.
Following the ceasefire announcement, divisions within Israel’s ruling coalition have surfaced, with Netanyahu’s far-right allies threatening to leave the government.
There is growing concern in right-wing circles over Netanyahu’s willingness to show flexibility in the Gaza ceasefire and prisoner release agreement.
