Pakistan Remembers Mir Anis, the Master of Mersia Poetry, on 150th Anniversary of His Passing

Today, December 10, 2024, marks the 150th anniversary of the passing of Mir Anis, a renowned classical poet from Lucknow, India, who is remembered for his exceptional contribution to the world of Urdu literature, particularly in the genre of Mersia poetry.

“Jo shamaa hai mere dil ki,
Uski roshni se hai jalwagar

Translated, it means:

“The flame that burns within my heart,
Illuminates the world with its radiance
My tears are a testament to my love,
My heart beats with the passion of my soul”
